Burkina Faso is a tropical and sud-saharian country whisch is covered from west to southwest with huge onchards with produce eery year between March and August a great number of fresh mangoes. Fresh mangoes are produced at a specific period. That's why the CEAS ( Albert Schweitzer Ecological Center ) has elaborated some techniques to allow people to get mangoes at any time, among others there is the mango drying by gaz. Since then, many people are attracted by this new technique. As a resolt there are lots of drying units in Ouagadougou as well as in Bobo Dioulasso.

I) CONTEXT AND CREATION OF NAFFA

1-1) Contextual elements

In Burkina Faso the number of drying units has increased these last years. In fact, some thirty drying enterprises ( individual and groups ) have been created. But customers are more and more demanding for the quality of the product. So that the drying units were obliged to increase their production cost which has become unbearable for individual units ( mainly due to certification costs, to supplying with raw materials, to payment: the activity requiring high intensity of power and packagings). These two factors have led to the corollary senitive decrease of market shares.

1-2) NAFFA Creation

The diverse difficulties met by the different units to set on the market products complying with the customer's demands have led eight (8) units responsibles to set together with the backing of CEAS - BF, to constitute a GIE ( Association for Developping Commercial Interests). The idea consists for driers in setting together in order to get fixed costs with the help of a structure which will defend their interest and sell their products.

The expected result from this coalition are among others the permanent increase of the quality, the professionalisation of the sector which can lead to profits and the concerned actors. The conviction of that coalition advantages has been taken into account by CEAS to continue its experimentation on gaz drying experimentation which main object is a continual increase of the productivity of this kind of driver in order to maintain its partnerchip network with some European structures forming COSE ( Solidary and Equitable Trade ). This is how GIE ( Association for Developping Commercial Interests ) has been created end 2002 which started first production in 2003.
